Announcement of guest seminar by

Dr. Neil Havis, Crop Protection, Crop and Soil Systems, Scotland’s Rural Colledge, UK.

Title: “The interactions between plant pathogenic fungi and host plants”

Summary: The main topic of the seminar will to widen the understanding of the interaction between plant pathogenic fungus and cereals. The interaction between Ramularia collo-cygni (Rcc) and its host plant barley will be discussed in more details. The seminar will also give an overview of the new diagnostic assays of Rcc and the spreading of the fungicide resistance population of this pathogen in Europa.

The lecture will concentrate on the following aspects of of plant pathogenic fungus:

  1. Epidemiology, life cycle and control of Ramularia leaf spot in barley
  2. Developing new diagnostic assays for fungal pathogens.
  3. Monitoring the development of reduced sensitivity to fungicides in fungal pathogens
  4. Developing new risk forecasts for fungal pathogens and incorporating into disease control programs.
